Current Vaccine Shortages in Utah
Pediarix Supply
Due to the increased demand for Pediarix vaccine (DTaP/Hepatitis B/Polio) over the past few months, GlaxoSmithKline is not able to continue meeting the current demand. Utah Vaccines for Children providers will have a lmiited supply over the next few months. Check with your provider for alternative vaccines.
Pentacel & Daptacel Supply
Sanofi Pasteur’s Pentacel (DTaP-IPV/Hib) and Daptacel (DTaP) are expected to remain in short supply throughout the summer of 2013. As a result of the ongoing Pentacel vaccine shortage that began in April 2012, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has experienced increased demand for Pediarix (DTaP-IPV-HepB) vaccine. GSK has taken steps to meet this increased demand, but will not be able to supply this vaccine at the same rate over the next 4–6 months before Pentacel is available without restrictions, which is currently anticipated to occur in September 2013.
The Utah Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program has been notified by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) that our current Pentacel (DTaP/IPV/Hib) allocations have been significantly reduced due to delays in production. Therefore, Pentacel will not be available through the Utah VFC Program until Summer 2013. Providers are encouraged to find alternatives to vaccinating children through Spring/Summer 2013. There is an ample supply of monovalent vaccines and alternative combination vaccines. Missed opportunities should be avoided. Please discuss with your healthcare providers and place your orders for products currently available. VFC providers will be notified via the VFC listserv when Pentacel is again available to order.
